Christian theology on peace explains that it is more than an overall sense of wellbeing because adherents are taught to 'live a life of peace' according to the model of Jesus. This encourages them to build peace within themselves, their families, and communities.

The understanding of peace is intricately tied to how humans relate to one another and to God. Thus, followers are prompted to practice compassion and kindness, mirroring Christ's teachings of mercy and love, which are highlighted in scripture. For instance, Jesus states, 'I leave you my peace; I give you my peace. I do not give to you as the world gives.' (John 16:33)

Furthermore, Christians are called to strive towards a 'sense of peace' by first finding it within themselves, which subsequently influences how they interact with others. This aligns with the principle that preserving unity amongst relationships and communities actively works towards what Paul states in Romans 14:19: 'So then, let us pursue the things that bring peace and the things that build each other up.'
