In schools where certain groups are marginalized or bullied, those students may band together to form subcultures that oppose school norms. This can be fueled by a lack of supportive relationships with teachers or staff, causing these students to reject the school's authority and values, thus leading to the development of attitudes that are counterproductive to educational achievement.
