Answer
Methane (CH₄) has one carbon atom and four hydrogen atoms, while hexane (C₆H₁₄) has six carbon atoms and fourteen hydrogen atoms. Both are hydrocarbons containing carbon–hydrogen bonds. Methane is a gas at room temperature, while hexane is a liquid. Hexane has a higher melting point (-95 °C) and boiling point (69 °C) compared to methane (-183 °C and -162 °C). Both molecules are relatively small, but hexane has larger molecular size, leading to stronger van der Waals forces between molecules. Hexane is more viscous than methane and is also more flammable.
