Outline the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation - AQA - GCSE Physical Education - Question 11 - 2021 - Paper 1

Intrinsic motivation refers to the drive that comes from within an individual. This includes feelings of pride, satisfaction, or a sense of accomplishment. For example, an athlete may engage in training simply for the joy of improving their performance.

On the other hand, extrinsic motivation is driven by external rewards such as prizes, money, or recognition. A clear example is an athlete who competes in a race to win a medal, aiming for external validation or reward.
