Answer
Auxins are plant hormones that play a crucial role in directing growth responses. When light is shone on one side of a plant shoot, auxins move to the shaded side of the shoot. This unequal distribution of auxins causes the cells on the shaded side to elongate more than those on the light-exposed side. As a result, the shoot bends towards the light, an adaptive response that optimizes light capture for photosynthesis.
