To find the area of the base of the prism, we can divide the shape into two rectangular areas:
- The larger rectangle measuring 6 cm (length) x 4 cm (width)
- The smaller rectangle measuring 1 cm (length) x 3 cm (height)
-
Area of the larger rectangle:
extAreaextlarge=6imes4=24extcm2
-
Area of the smaller rectangle:
extAreaextsmall=1imes3=3extcm2
Thus, the total area of the base is:
extTotalArea=extAreaextlarge−extAreaextsmall=24−3=21extcm2

To find the volume of the prism, multiply the area of the base by the height of the prism. The height of the prism is given as 1 cm:
extVolume=extBaseAreaimesextHeight=21extcm2imes1extcm=21extcm3
