In The Tempest, Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, lives in exile on a remote island with his daughter Miranda. He was overthrown by his brother Antonio and now uses his magical powers to control the island's spirits, including Ariel, and the creature Caliban. Prospero conjures a storm that shipwrecks his enemies, including Antonio and King Alonso of Naples, on the island. As the castaways wander the island, Prospero uses magic to manipulate them. Miranda meets and falls in love with Ferdinand, Alonso's son. In the end, Prospero forgives his enemies, gives up his magic, and prepares to return to Milan, where Miranda and Ferdinand will be married, symbolising reconciliation and a new beginning.
