Human Nature In Islam

Introduction

Beliefs in Islam are rooted in the Quran and Hadith (sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad). Islamic beliefs concerning human nature encompass free will, suffering, and the concept of Khalifas (stewards).

Free Will

• In Islam, humans possess free will (Quran 18:29).
• This free will enables individuals to make moral and ethical choices.
• Human accountability is central; actions are weighed on the Day of Judgment (Quran 101:6-8).

Suffering

• Suffering is a means to seek spiritual growth and patience.
• It's an opportunity to seek forgiveness and closeness to Allah.
• The importance of charity and helping the less fortunate as a means to alleviate suffering (Zakat and Sadaqah).

Khalifas

• The term Khalifa (caliph) means "steward" or "successor" in Arabic.
• In Islam, humans are considered khalifas of Allah on Earth (Quran 2:30).
• Humans are entrusted with the responsibility of being caretakers of the Earth.
• This concept highlights the importance of environmental stewardship and ethical conduct in all aspects of life.
• Khalifas are expected to establish justice and maintain the balance in the world.
