Windward Side: Location X is on the windward side of the mountain. Moisture-laden winds rise and cool, which leads to the formation of rain.
Rain Shadow Effect: In contrast, location Y is in the rain shadow. Here, the winds descend and lose moisture, resulting in less rainfall compared to location X.
