To conduct a flame test, first, clean a platinum (nichrome) wire by dipping it in concentrated hydrochloric acid (HCl). Next, take a small sample of the salt and rub it onto the wire. Then hold the wire in the hottest part of a Bunsen flame and observe the colour of the flame. This test allows us to identify the presence of specific metal ions based on the flame colour produced.
