Answer
One primary source of sulfuric acid in acid rain is the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal and oil. This process releases sulfur dioxide (SO₂) into the atmosphere. When sulfur dioxide reacts with water vapor, oxygen, and other substances in the atmosphere, it forms sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄), which then can fall to the ground as acid rain. This phenomenon can lead to detrimental environmental impacts, including damage to forests, soils, and aquatic ecosystems.
