(i) The finish reduces the risk of fabric igniting and has self-extinguishing properties. This means that if the fabric comes into contact with flames, it is less likely to burn and will extinguish itself if the flame source is removed.

(ii) Another effect is that it may cause allergic reactions in some individuals, and special care may be required during the cleaning process to maintain its effectiveness.
