Nylon is produced from petrochemicals via a process that begins with the extraction of oil or coal. Chemicals, known as monomers, are combined and subjected to a reaction in a spinneret, where they are heated and extruded, forming long filaments. These filaments are then cooled in a bath and wound onto spools for further processing.

Nylon exhibits several beneficial properties:

• It is strong and resilient, making it ideal for various applications.
• The fabric is lightweight, allowing for comfortable use.
• Its smooth texture contributes to a soft feel against the skin.
• Nylon is resistant to abrasion and drying quickly, which is excellent for active wear and outdoor gear.

To identify Nylon, a common test involves burning a small sample of the fibre. When burned, Nylon will melt and produce a linear bead at the tip. The resulting smell is reminiscent of burning plastics, such as that of burnt hair. This test indicates that the fabric is likely Nylon.
