Capacitance is defined as the ability of a system to store electric charge per unit voltage. Mathematically, it can be expressed as:

$C = \frac{Q}{V}$

where:

• $C$ is the capacitance measured in farads (F),
• $Q$ is the charge stored measured in coulombs (C), and
• $V$ is the potential difference measured in volts (V).

This relationship indicates that the larger the charge stored for a given voltage, the greater the capacitance of the system.
