Laboratory Experiment: Demonstrating Resonance
Apparatus:
Tuning fork
Length of pipe (with adjustable means for varying length)
Procedure:
Strike the tuning fork to produce sound.
Hold the vibrating fork over the open end of the pipe.
Gradually change the length of the pipe by inserting or removing sections until you find a length at which a loud sound is heard.
Observation:
A loud sound indicates resonance at a specific length of the pipe.
