Good evening and welcome to the Jomba Dance Conference. I am honored to introduce you to the remarkable choreographer Gregory Maqoma. Born in 1973 in Soweto, he began dancing in the 1980s as a way to escape the political turmoil in South Africa. His formal training began at Moving into Dance MIPD in 1990 under Sylvia Glasser. He later earned a scholarship to study at PARTS in Brussels, Belgium. Gregory is the founder of the Dance Theatre Africa and has received extensive recognition both local and international for his work.
