1. Understanding Ordered Pairs

An ordered pair identifies the exact position of a point on a graph.

• Written as (x, y), where:
  • x = horizontal coordinate (left or right movement).
  • y = vertical coordinate (up or down movement).
• Example: (5, 4)

• Move 5 steps right on the x-axis.
• Move 4 steps up on the y-axis.
• Plot the point where these values intersect.

Tip: Always move horizontally first, then vertically when plotting.

2. Steps to Plot a Point (Example: (5,4))

1. Start at (0,0) (origin).
2. Move horizontally to x = 5.
3. Move vertically up to y = 4.
4. Mark the point where the two values meet.

The x-axis runs left to right (horizontal).

The y-axis runs up and down (vertical).
